5/13/2023 0 Comments Dune the messiahdistributes the Dune movies - Legendary Pictures produces them - and the media conglomerate seems intent on extracting the most out of its intellectual properties. Whether the film franchise goes beyond three movies and two books is still up in the air (and up to Dune’s continued box office performance). The original Dune novel spans more than 700 pages, while Messiah clocks in at a much leaner 350 (based on the currently available paperback editions of those books). For my mental sanity, I decided to just dream about three movies.”ĭune Messiah would be a much more manageable adaptation for Villeneuve and crew. “We decided to split the first novel in two, so now we are at three movies. “The thing I envision the adaptation of two books, Dune and Dune Messiah,” Villeneuve said at a press junket in 2021, as reported by Nerdist. The Sunday Philosophy Club is the first book in the series, but you may enjoy reading the series in any order. But then Isabel, being a philosopher, has a thing or two to say about God as well. As her hero WH Auden maintained, classic detective fiction stems from a desire for an uncorrupted Eden which the detective, as an agent of God, can return to us. With Isabel Dalhousie Alexander McCall Smith introduces a new and pneumatic female sleuth to tackle murder, mayhem - and the mysteries of life. Instinct tells Isabel that the young man who tumbled to his death in front of her eyes at a concert in the Usher Hall didn't fall. Urbane and well-educated, Isabel is both less exotic and less enchanting than the radiant Precious Ramotswe, and contemporary Scotland lacks the balmy, travelogue allure of McCall Smith’s lovingly. Inspired by Armistead Maupins 'Tales of the City,' which began as serial fiction in the San Francisco Chronicle, the books in this series appear first in daily, thousand-word chunks published. Behind the city's Georgian facades its moral compasses are spinning with greed, dishonesty and murderous intent. Isabel is Editor of the Review of Applied Ethics - which addresses such questions as 'Truth telling in sexual relationships' - and she also hosts The Sunday Philosophy Club at her house in Edinburgh. THE FIRST INSTALLMENT OF THE MUCH-LOVED ISABEL DALHOUSIE SERIESĪmateur sleuth Isabel Dalhousie is a philosopher who also uses her training to solve unusual mysteries. 5/12/2023 0 Comments Dark matter by blake crouchIn this labyrinth of mind-bending realities, he embarks on a harrowing journey to get back to his true family and save them from the most terrifying, unbeatable foe imaginable: himself. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so. 5/12/2023 0 Comments Trigun by Dark Horse ComicsFrom the Dark Horse website: Vash the Stampede, the galaxy’s deadliest gunslinger, emerges after two years in hiding to help his beleaguered desert homeworld, Gunsmoke. 1-5), plus the regular Trigun Omnibus and a copy of Trigun: Multiple Bullets from Yasuhiro Nightow and Dark Horse Comics. One Goodreads fan said she felt like his protective mother for the entire read and that she’d “do anything for him.” To say die-hard fans of a novel adaptation to film are hard to please is an understatement, but Ness took his adaptation work in stride. Todd is a boy amongst men, who manages to control his “noise” better than the others. Readers of the first book in Ness’s series, "The Knife of Never Letting Go" were undoubtedly possessive of Todd, Ness’s title character who's played by Tom Holland in the film. Ness' book was much celebrated in a space where dystopian sci-fi was ever-present: in the wake of the Hunger Games success, when young readers’ appetite for more seemed insatiable. The thoughts are known as “noise” and interpreted visually, to great effect by Ness and director Doug Liman ( The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow). It’s set on a planet in a post-Earth world where men’s thoughts can be heard by others and women don’t seem to exist (at first). Chaos Walking, originally a novel by Patrick Ness who also co-wrote the script with Christopher Ford, has a striking premise. 5/11/2023 0 Comments AmatkaAmatka is a beguiling and wholly original novel about freedom, love, and artistic creation by a captivating new voice. In Karin Tidbeck’s world, everyone is suspect, no one is safe, and nothing-not even language, nor the very fabric of reality-can be taken for granted. Intending to stay just a short while, Vanja falls in love with her housemate, Nina, and prolongs her visit. Immediately she feels that something strange is going on: people act oddly in Amatka, and citizens are monitored for signs of subversion.
